Family Roots and Foodies with Dr. Rachel Borel
Family Roots and Foodies with Dr. Rachel Borel
If you’ve been a patient of Shreveport Eye for any time at all you’ve no doubt encountered the amazing Dr. Rachel Borel who is our full-time staff optometrist. True to the Louisiana roots of the practice, Dr. Borel is a native of the state and couldn’t be happier caring for patients in the Shreveport area.
Family Roots
Her story in optometry goes back even further than her own career, as she was largely influenced by watching her father as an optometrist when she was a child. She was even working in the office as a child making $1/hour back in those days and still draws her inspiration and drive from those earlier years.
When asked what is her favorite area of the eye to treat she said decisively, “cornea to mid-eye”, which is also known as the anterior segment. Most of the ocular diseases and diagnoses happen in this area and she feels her work can have the greatest impact managing patients in this setting. Because Dr. Van Norman is an anterior segment surgeon, there is a great alignment in their areas of interest and how patients are managed in the practice. Dr. Borel loves working here at Shreveport Eye and especially with Dr. Van Norman. She describes him as, “a laid back and fun person” who is also “eager to explain and teach”, both to her as a provider as well as to their patients.
A Foodie!!!
Everyone has a life outside of the office and Dr. Borel is no exception. In fact, she excitedly seeks out great food and great wine wherever she goes and is always open to sitting at the “chef’s table” whenever she has the chance!
